Jill Williams

A Holyhead nurse who has single handedly raised more than £220,000 for local people in need is Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie’s November Hidden Hero.

Jill Williams has spent many decades in her community as a bank nurse helping people with learning disabilities and then dementia patients

But she has raised the staggering sum fundraising most weeks and organising different charity events.

“The money raised goes to local people and children who are poorly and in need,” Jill said.

“It also goes to care homes and wards in the hospital. Lately I have done fundraising for Hafan Bryngwran, Hafan Cefni and Gwelfor Community Centre.

“I have also organised fundraising events, such as the one I did in Holyhead Hotspur which was very well attended and raised a lot of money.”

Jill also really enjoys organising bus trips for island families to go to concerts in big towns and cities like Colwyn Bay and Manchester.

In her spare time the mother-of-two loves walking her beloved cocker spaniel Hollie in places such as Breakwater Park, Newry and Penrhos.

Family is also a big part of her life. She’s been married to Geraint for over 35 years and her two grown up sons, Matthew and Luke, both live in the local area.

“Jill is an amazing mother and nurse who has contributed so much to our island with her fundraising, her care work and her organising of trips,” said Virginia.

“The money she’s raised has gone to good causes all over the island and it is a staggering amount that has made a huge difference.

“She is a worthy winner of my November Hidden Hero award.”
