March’s Hidden Hero is Gillian Metcalf.
Known across Anglesey for her dedication to communities across the island, from helping to find, and prevent, lost pets – to helping people through her Facebook group – Anglesey Freebay.
Upon being nominated Gillian said :
I am totally shocked to be nominated for Virginia Crosbie's hidden hero award especially as most of my work is done from the comfort of my settee! I run Anglesey Freebay, Anglesey Lost and Found Pets and Ynys Môn/Anglesey Facebook groups. Anglesey Freebay helps so many people and the members on there show how amazing the community of Ynys Môn is, they always come together to help anyone in need of help.Anglesey Lost and Found Pets is very successful at reuniting lost pets and I love to help people going through the pain of a missing dog or cat as I once lost a dog myself. I have always loved helping people and have lots of time to spare due to ill health so enjoy putting it to good use. I also get many private messages from group members who want to request my help or advice but not on a public forum.
I would like to thank Virginia Crosbie for setting up this scheme and also the kind person who nominated me although I am sure that there are many more deserving of an award than myself. I'll gratefully accept the award on behalf of all the amazing people on my groups.
