Holyhead is the second busiest roll on, roll off port in the UK and with our new Anglesey Freeport we are at the start of our island's economic renaissance - so rail connectivity is vital especially now the Labour government in Cardiff will not agree to a third Menai crossing.

There has been improvement from Avanti West Coast over recent months. In January 13% of trains were cancelled and this has dropped to 3% now.

I am not entirely convinced the company should be given a long-term contract but I am prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt.

However, it comes with a condition: this recent improvement must continue and Avanti must restore the pre-covid timetable for North Wales with direct trains to Euston.

My Ynys Môn constituents can be assured: I will be keeping a close eye on Avanti’s performance and I will not hesitate to call out any problems on behalf of passengers.

Listen to the Minister's reply here.

Delivering New Nuclear to Ynys Môn

I am delighted that, after much hard work, on 22 May 2024 the UK Government gave a firm commitment to a gigawatt new nuclear plant at Wylfa. In this column I usually focus on the ‘bigger picture’ part of my role:   fighting to secure Anglesey Freeport in Westminster because I know how much our young people need the good quality, well paid jobs this will bring,  badgering Ministers, raising the profile of new nucl
