More than 100 business owners and companies packed into Holyhead town hall to take part in Ynys Môn MP Virginia
Crosbie’s latest Freeport Seminar.
A team of freeport experts joined Virginia on Friday to provide an update on the current status of the freeport as well
as the milestones over the coming months as the project enters its next phase.
The seminar also talked about the opportunities for businesses across the island and companies from many sectors
came, including tourism, leisure and manufacturing.
“I was delighted to see how many people came along to hear all about what will drive an economic renaissance for
our island,” said Virginia.
“There is real excitement about what will happen and how investment and jobs will come to our island in the coming
years because of our freeport status and how existing companies will benefit too.
“Thank you to everyone who came along and to the experts Ed Lavelle from Grayling and Paul Brooks and Suzanne
Alecrim of the Institute of Export and International Trade for their time.”
Holyhead Mayor Hywel Williams also spoke at the event. He said: “Freeport status is probably Anglesey’s best hope
of attracting new businesses to the island.
“I know Virginia Crosbie has been working hard to ensure the policy’s success ever since she was elected. This seminar
was crucial to anyone wanting to know what possible benefits there may be for them via the freeport.”
Virginia campaigned for a freeport on Anglesey for three years and she was delighted when the Prime Minister and
First Minister of Wales visited the Port of Holyhead to announce that our Island bid was successful in March this year.
