Animal welfare is important to me - which is why I am raising the continued need for a ban on the sale, distribution, and use of
electric shock collars across the UK.
This ban is supported by The Kennel Club UK, RSPCA (England & Wales), Battersea, the British Veterinary Association - BVA, Blue Cross, and Dogs Trust.
The event was attended by Professor Daniel Mills, an academic who has conducted considerable research at the University of Lincoln on electric shock collars.
Academic and anecdotal evidence presented to governments across the UK has led to collars administering electric shock stimuli being banned in Wales and condemned in Scottish guidance.
In 2018, the Westminster Government committed to introducing a ban when parliamentary time allowed, but this is long overdue.
These devices should be banned imminently, and I am calling on Defra to introduce the necessary Regulations.
