Labour

I tend to be quite surprised how little some local politicians know about how parliament works, and the ins and outs of what MPs can and can’t do.

Unfortunately, it leads to people who should know better making fools of themselves.

The latest is I haven’t been attending the Welsh Affairs Select Committee. This has been pounced on by the usual Labour/Plaid suspects.

The only problem is I didn’t attend the committee because I was a Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) at the Wales Office and convention says I can’t!

Now I have left that role, I am back asking if St David’s Day can be a holiday and pushing, as ever, for nuclear investment on Anglesey unlike Labour and anti-nuclear Plaid. It is like I have never been away! Except I had to be away because those are the rules!

If my political opponents had any decency, they would apologise. Funnily enough, I am not holding my breath. But more fool them!

In this column I usually focus on the ‘bigger picture’ part of my role:   fighting to secure Anglesey Freeport in Westminster because I know how much our young people need the good quality, well paid jobs this will bring,  badgering Ministers, raising the profile of new nucl
