Virginia Crobie at The Sandy Mount House

I was the first in my family to stay on at school beyond the age of 16.

Working in pubs and restaurants helped me fund my sixth form and University. I know how important tips are.

My Employment Allocation of Tips bill is about ensuring when a tip is paid by a customer via credit card - it goes to the staff. It is what the customer expects and it’s what the staff deserve.

In Wales tourism & hospitality is one of our most important sectors representing 12% of all jobs. Tourism is devolved to the Welsh Labour Government propped up by Plaid.

Hourly wages in this sector are one of the lowest of any industry and this bill will make a difference; this bill will potentially benefit over 2.5 million workers across the UK.

The bill is supported by the union Unite and Kate Nicholls CEO of UKHospitality and will be one of the first Bills to gain Royal Assent by King Charles.

Thank you to Sandy Mount House for hosting a round table to discuss my new tips bill.

Special thanks to all those that contributed and gave helpful feedback including Kristian Cuffin from Cuffed-in Coffee in Holyhead and team member Rhys and Shipu from bar and Indian restaurant Y Glan-Neigr.

Big shout out to the lovely Shelley Phelps at the BBC for coming to film and share this positive message and to Minister Dean Russell MP for Watford for everything he has done to bring this important bill forward.

In this column I usually focus on the ‘bigger picture’ part of my role:   fighting to secure Anglesey Freeport in Westminster because I know how much our young people need the good quality, well paid jobs this will bring,  badgering Ministers, raising the profile of new nucl
