I discussed plans to ban smoking when she caught up with Ysgol Gymuned y Fali - Valley Community School pupils for a Q&A session in Parliament recently.
Around 28 Years 5 and 6 students went on a tour of the palace and then participated in a laws and debating workshop to discuss with myself proposals to stop anyone aged 15 or under from being able to buy cigarettes.
I was delighted to catch up with the school who were down in London on a visit and they wanted to have a Q&A session with me and my views on the Tobacco and Vapes Bill which I support.
There were also some good questions about what I do and it is important our young people come to visit parliament to see where our democracy takes place and to understand the unbelievable history we have as a country.
Thank you to the school for allowing me to share some time with the pupils.
Head teacher Iolo Evans said: “Ysgol Gymuned y Fali have been visiting London and the spectacular sites it has to offer. As well as the usual attractions such as Buckingham Palace, Tower of London, we also decided to visit Parliament.
Our visit to the Palace of Westminster was engaging for the pupils and allowed them to build on their initial understanding of the parliamentary estate’s history.
The children chose to discuss a smoking ban as this was something that they felt affected them in everyday life. Virginia’s visit coincided with this debate and it was lovely to hear her thoughts on the matter.
She allowed for opportunities to ask questions and discuss her role within the House of Commons further. We thoroughly enjoyed the morning and would definitely organise a tour in the future.”
