Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie has raised over £2,000 for Anglesey Hawks Wheelchair Basketball Club after organising a gala dinner.

More than 100 guests were served a delicious supper by the Braids Bistro team at Holyhead Golf Club on Monday night for the event.

Guest of honour was the disabilities minister Chloe Smith. She had spent two days on Anglesey meeting with charity organisations and community groups including a roundtable at the Bulkeley Hotel, Anglesey Riding for the Disabled, Anglesey Hawks, Tyddyn Môn and the Holyhead Job Centre.

Generous auction donations included a season’s pass for two at Trac Môn Anglesey Circuit, a Menai Straits Helicopter ride, a wonderful photo by local artist Lisa Hooton, portraits by the talented Charlie MacPherson.

There were also many other raffle prizes ranging from Hooton’s ‘pick your own pumpkin’ vouchers to baskets of fruit and vegetables.

“Thank you everyone that supported this brilliant fundraising event in aid of a brilliant club,” said Virginia. “It helped raise vital funds for a new wheelchair.

“Special thanks to those who kindly donated – and bid on – the many incredible raffle and auction prizes.

“A special mention needs to go to Susan and Charlie MacPherson who worked exceptionally hard to make this event such a success and are community heroes in my book.

“I know the minister had a great time and she saw what a kind and generous island we are and how we work our socks off to help others whenever we can.”

This is the fourth fundraising event Virginia has organised this year. They have raised over £11,000 for local charities including the Anglesey Agricultural Society, Anglesey SSAFA and Amlwch Town FC.
