I have granted a Holyhead primary school’s wish for a summer splash park by raising the £600 needed to make it happen.
I visited Ysgol Llanfawr School last year to meet with pupils and they told me they would love to have a splash park afternoon with fun activities like water sprinklers, a water slide and bubble machine.
I wrote to the President of Competere Foundation for Trade and Competition Policy Shanker Singham who generously agreed to fund the park.
Shankar and his wife Mellicent joined with the work and pensions secretary Mel Stride and Virginia at the school earlier this month to hand over the cheque.
I am thrilled to keep my promise to the children that they would get a splash park and I thank Shanker for his generous cheque and for the secretary of state for coming to the island to help present it,
What they asked for was so little and they were so enthusiastic about having the park, I knew there and then I had to do all I could to make it a reality.
I know they are going to enjoy it and I hope they have a great afternoon getting totally wet and having a tremendous time.
Getting stuff like this done, makes the job worthwhile.
Deputy Headteacher Ceri Wyn Jones said: “We want to express our sincere gratitude to Virginia for taking the time to listen to our pupils' voices.
“Her generosity and willingness to hear our pupils' perspectives mean a lot to us. Knowing that someone from the government cares about our community's youth is truly inspiring. Thank you for your support once again.”
