Anglesey day 2023

Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie celebrated Anglesey Day on Wednesday in Westminster by hosting a reception for local businesses who have benefited from the island's Green Digital Academy.

Every year Virginia puts on an event in London to celebrate the island’s day with a theme. Last year it was apprentices and this year green skills and economy.

A host of companies and organisations, including Bangor University, Anglesey Sea Zoo, Bryn Edynfed Caravan Site, Aria Film Studios, John Kelly Construction, Mona Lifting and Metex all came to exhibit what they do. South Stack Ynys Lawd volunteers helped coordinate the event and gift bags and it was sponsored by GE-Hitachi.

The Welsh Secretary David TC Davies gave a speech and the Education Secretary Gillian Keegan also attended.

“Thank you to all the brilliant companies and organisations and their lovely people who came to London on Wednesday to celebrate Anglesey but also to make a big point: that Ynys Môn is punching above its weight when it comes to embracing green skills and innovation,” said Virginia.

“I know the Welsh Secretary and the Education Secretary were both impressed with what they saw and the event was absolutely packed and a huge success.

“I felt proud and lucky to have so many companies prepared to come down to London and show off what the island is achieving as we work at our net zero ambitions.”

The Green Digital Academy run by Grŵp Llandrillo Menai and Greener Edge is using money from the UK Government’s Community Renewal Fund to promote green skills.

It supports businesses who see the value of using new digital technologies, accelerate efficiency, productivity, carbon reduction and to reduce costs.
