The UK Government has today announced that Ynys Môn has been awarded £17m from its Levelling Up Fund.
This is a huge win for Holyhead and Ynys Môn and I am thrilled UK government money is coming to our island to make a big difference to residents’ lives.
I was delighted to endorse this bid and I am confident it will transform Holyhead in many, many ways after many years of decline.
The £17 million is again proof this Conservative government is keeping its promises and is prepared to invest in places like our island. It means we can move forward to generate jobs, investment opportunities, a sense of civic pride and cultural renewal. I can think of no town more deserving of this opportunity and the £54 million of total benefits that comes with it.
I would like to thank everyone who has been part of the bid but Holyhead Town Council should be given a big shout out for its commitment to this project. Working together we have achieved a great deal and we should be proud this partnership of councils, the MP, businesses, organisations and the private sector has come this far in the name of improving lives.
This is a new dawn for Holyhead. It will not eliminate all our challenges but it gives us all a big step up in the right direction.
