The leader of Ynys Môn’s Gymnastics Club was invited to Downing Street this week alongside myself to attend the Community Education Champions reception.
Catherine Rowley is the head coach and director of the club in Holyhead for boys and girls.
She was nominated by myself to go to the event and she met the schools minister Damian Hinds after going through the famous black door on Tuesday.
Catherine regularly trains over 460 students each month from across Anglesey. She took over the club in 2014, moved into a dedicated facility in 2015 and has continued to grow it.
Catherine, who lives in Holyhead, said: “It was a great honour to be invited to No 10 Downing Street by Virginia Crosbie on behalf of Ynys Môn Gymnastics Club.
“The whole process was great from entering Downing Street to leaving. I felt incredibly blessed to be there.
“Damian Hinds gave an uplifting speech which was well received and then an official handshake and photo. Many thanks for a great afternoon, Virginia.”
It was lovely to see Catherine again and for her to visit Downing Street, meet the minister and chat with other champions from across the country who were all recognised by their MPs for the work they do.
Catherine is dedicated to gymnastics on Ynys Môn and her club is so popular. She is a true community education champion and it was my honour to invite her.
