Today is #askhertostand day and the anniversary of the 1918 Qualification of the Women's Act being passed.
Women make up 51% of the UK Population (ONS) but only 35% of MPs are women.
The #AskHerToStand initiative puts the responsibility on everyone to reach out within their communities and ask women whether they have considered a career in politics.
We need teachers, lawyers, business owners, mums and accountants – anyone keen to make their community a better place.
With a female MP in Parliament working on policy areas such as flexible working and the gender pay gap, women see someone highlighting the issues that resonate with them and impact them.
This is something I have long advocated for, as director of the Women2Win initiative.
