Remembrance Day

This year is the second year that there will be a Constituency Garden of Remembrance in New Palace Yard in Westminster.

This Sunday morning during his 10am service at St Mihangel's RAF Valley, Padre Mike Hall blessed the special cross for Ynys Môn which I will place in the Garden.

I will dedicate the cross to Mr Ivor Jones who faithfully discharged his duties as RAF Association standard bearer until his death from Covid earlier this year. He did his National Service in the Royal Air Force, and was exemplary in his military bearing and attitude in retirement. He and his family raised a significant amount for RAF Association .

Royal British Legion (RBL) is working with the Speaker’s Office again this year on the installation of the UK House of Commons Constituency Garden of Remembrance in New Palace Yard. The RBL is committed to ensuring the service and sacrifice of those men and women from Britain and the Commonwealth, who gave everything to defend our way of life and protect our freedoms, shall never be forgotten.

This year we will be commemorating and honouring service and remembering everyone who has stood up to defend our way of life during conflict and national emergencies. Whether thousands of miles from home or just down the road, they all have one thing in common, they’ve shown extraordinary dedication despite the personal cost. Working long, stressful hours, missing special moments with family and friends - birthdays, anniversaries, and Christmas. Risking their health, wellbeing and even their lives.

Thank you to all those that came along to make the service so special.

In this column I usually focus on the ‘bigger picture’ part of my role:   fighting to secure Anglesey Freeport in Westminster because I know how much our young people need the good quality, well paid jobs this will bring,  badgering Ministers, raising the profile of new nucl
