Meeting in Westminster

Great to catch up with Heather Bell - Office Director Energy Attaché - from the US Embassy, Energy Department.

We discussed all things nuclear - Great British Nuclear, green taxonomy for nuclear, the nuclear energy (financing) Bill - and the UK Governments plans for:

✅ at least one large-scale nuclear project to reach Final Investment Decision (FID) during this Parliament and two in the next.

✅24GW (currently about 6.5 GW) of nuclear power by 2050 and 25% of electricity (currently around 15%).

And of course I invited Heather and the US Ambassador Jane Hartley - to visit Ynys Môn and Wylfa - the best new nuclear site in the UK!

New nuclear at Wylfa?

New nuclear is the most reliable, clean, low carbon and consistent energy generating technology currently available and Wylfa is a key UK site with potential for both large and small reactors which would generate more than 9,000 construction jobs and 900 steady-state careers.  I am working wit

In this column I usually focus on the ‘bigger picture’ part of my role:   fighting to secure Anglesey Freeport in Westminster because I know how much our young people need the good quality, well paid jobs this will bring,  badgering Ministers, raising the profile of new nucl
