Freeport Seminar

Join me as I speak with representatives of Anglesey Freeport and and the Institute of Export & International Trade (IoE&IT) to discuss the development and progress of Anglesey Freeport.

For years, I have campaigned for a freeport on Anglesey and I am delighted that in March this year the Prime Minister and First Minister of Wales visited the Port of Holyhead to announce that our Island would be home to one of the first Welsh freeports – an enormous step towards delivering high skilled, high paid jobs to the people of North Wales and turbocharging the economic prosperity of our communities. I continue to champion the unique benefits that the Freeport will bring, acting as a magnet for innovative new businesses in sectors such as sustainable energy generation and advanced manufacturing, and I will continue to work with UK and Welsh Government as the project develops.

We will provide a short update on the current status of the Freeport, as well as the milestones to be met over the coming months as the project enters its next phase. The development of Anglesey Freeport will be one which takes place over a number of years, and I look forward to discussing with my guests how they will work with the local community to not only ensure the Freeport is developed in partnership with the people of Anglesey but delivers opportunities for residents of North Wales.

IoE&IT will be working with our local higher and further educational institutions – such as Bangor University and M-SParc – to develop new programmes which will upskill local workforces to take advantage of the new opportunities afforded by the Freeport, protecting our proud Welsh identity by ensuring our younger workers in particular are not forced to leave North Wales in pursuit of long-term employment.

I very much hope you will be able to join me and hear from IACC and IoE&IT about how the Freeport is developing, and how businesses can work with the governing partners to ensure its lasting success.  This event is open to both businesses and individuals who want to know more.
